Welcome to ABC Accelerate! ABC Communications is pleased to offer you High Speed Dial Up Services. The system works by using the latest in image compression technology to allow your connection to display web pages more quickly than conventional dial up. One of the things that makes web surfing slow for dial up users is the large or high quality images that are found on most web pages. Image compression technology allows your computer to download less data to produce a similar picture. Image quality is reduced somewhat, but most find that a welcome trade-off compared to waiting for a page to load.
The second way that ABC Accelerate speeds up your surfing is by using a caching technology to store the most recent copy of a webpage at a local source rather than making your computer travel across the country or across the world to retrieve the data from the website. The closer to your computer the data lies the faster the download speed is.
Because dial up technology has a maximum speed 56kbps due to limitations with dial up modems and conventional telephone lines you won't be able to download files faster or retrieve large emails faster. Also pages that use a secure server like online banking or forms can't be cached, so it won't benefit from that. Many people find the surfing experience feels about 5 times faster than conventional dial up.
