Connecting B.C.
Rural Broadband Celebration

Friday, October 7, 2016 | 11:00am – Noon Lac La Hache Community Hall
3997 Cariboo Hwy

You are invited to join Northern Development, ABC Communications and the Province of British Columbia, who will gather in Lac La Hache to celebrate investment in projects through the Connecting B.C. program that improves rural high-speed internet access across our province.

In 2015, Northern Development approved a $2.5 million grant for ABC Communications to expand internet access throughout B.C.’s interior. Network infrastructure upgrades have recently extended to the community of Lac La Hache, providing new opportunities to bridge the urban-rural digital divide.

Please join us as we celebrate this project milestone and the upcoming upgrades for one of the most expansive single networks in the Cariboo region.

ABC Communications will be on hand for further information from Noon – 2:00pm.

What: Representatives from Northern Development, ABC Communications, the Province of British Columbia and other dignitaries will gather in Lac La Hache to celebrate the Trust’s and Province’s investment in high‐speed Internet.

Background: Northern Development is administering the $10 million Connecting B.C. program on behalf of the Province of British Columbia. In partnership with the Ministry of Technology, Innovation and Citizen Services and Network B.C., the program has approved more than $7 million in funding to date for projects throughout British Columbia that improve rural broadband Internet access.

In 2015, Northern Development approved a $2.5 million grant for ABC Communications to expand Internet access into rural areas throughout B.C.’s interior, including Lac La Hache. Throughout the Cariboo region, communities within ABC's trading area will see upgrades to infrastructure to build access to 4G LTE within the region. Communities from Little Fort to Lone Butte, Barriere in the south to Bear Lake in the north, and all the communities in between will find network upgrades to infrastructure within their communities. ABC has developed an upgrade path for one of our most expansive single networks in the Nechako region. We are proud to support rural communities across British Columbia, continually working towards bridging the urban‐rural digital divide.

The Government of Canada’s Connecting Canadians program provided an additional $2.4 million toward the $7 million project.
