Residential Digital Telephone Service Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will Digital Phone customers need to purchase additional phones or equipment?
 A: Customers with touch tone phones will not need to purchase new equipment. Simply plug the supplied adapter into any high speed internet connection. There is no need to purchase any new telephones as this service will accommodate your present phones.  Depending on the circumstances, there may be a need for additional equipment such as a router.  The customer is not responsible for purchasing or leasing this adapter.

Q: How is ABC Voice Link Residential Digital Telephone service different from my current local telephone service?
ABC Voice Link Residential is an Internet service that allows a user to make local and long distance calls in a similar way as you currently do using your existing phone service. The telephone features added can be used with any standard phone set and you computer.

Q: Can I keep my current phone number? 
A: Yes, We can port your number so that it will remain the same. A slight onetime fee will apply.  You can continue to receive calls from family, friends and companies you deal with. The only exception would be if you should decide to move to a new location in a different area where the first three digits of your existing phone number are not supported.  You will then be given a new series of numbers to choose from.
 
Q: If my electricity goes out, will I still be able to use my Digital Phone?
A:  In the event of an electrical outage or any unforeseen occurrence, it is recommended that you have a secondary communications device available such as a cellular phone.   We also recommend a backup power supply device such as a Universal Power Supply (U.P.S.) which is good for brief power outages.
 
Q: Can I get the 411 service with ABC Voice Link Residential Digital?
Yes, ABC Voice Link Residential does offer 411 directory service.  To use this service simply dial (area code) 555-1212 for information in Canada and the USA. There is a charge for each directory assistance call that is made.

Q: Is there a service contract requirement?
A:  There is no need for a contract as month to month billing is available.  However ABC is pleased to provide one, two and three year options to further increase your savings.  Please see our plans available to you on our web page.

Q: Are Digital Phone calls kept private?
A:  Yes! With broadband service your calls are just as secure as with any other telephone provider.

Q: What  features are included with ABC’s Voice Link Residential Digital Telephone service ?

A: Yes, we provide high quality digital fax but it needs to be on its own a dedicated line.

Q:   Will my alarm system work  with ABC Voice Link Residential Digital Telephone Service
A:  ABC Voice Link may not be compatible with some security systems. You may be required to maintain a telephone connection through your local exchange carrier to use any alarm security system with monitoring functions. You should contact your alarm company to determine the compatibility of their alarm monitoring or security system services.
